Redesigning Pedagogy 2007 Conference

Sparking students' interest and increasing their understanding of Design and Technology by posing problems to them to examine and solve.

L-R: Mr Yeo Tiong Meng, Mr Dennis Toh, Dr Gwendoline Quek (NIE), Mr Loke Hong Yew

The symposium shared by our teachers not only helped researchers and educators become more aware of their facilitation styles, it also shed insights on implementing new and innovative ways of teaching and learning in D&T.

Learning through discourse media is currently implemented in Secondary 3 D&T classes. Students use tablet-PCs to access the school's wireless network to search for resources and information on the Internet in school. They can also continue online learning and discussion from home using their own computers.

Together with Dr. Quek (NTU/NIE), our D&T teachers provided the structure for shaping the learning and lifestyle preferences of our learners using Problem Based Learning (PBL) based on real-life situations which are usually ill-defined. This is to encourage our students to engage in the complex challenges of our ever-changing world by building a learning community through discourse media (Knowledge Forum) in D&T. This also encourages and enables both the construction and the co-construction of knowledge for, within, and by individuals and community of learners.
