As we welcomed the year 2008, giant couplets hung on the walls in front of Central Square signalled the arrival of Chinese New Year. As the school population comprises of different racial groups, the non-Chinese students and staff celebrated this event together. The entire school was decorated with festive ornaments, which brightened up the whole school with amazing, striking colours.

Chinese New Year is not an occasion meant only for the Chinese. Instead, it involves everybody in the community regardless of race to celebrate together. On the eve of Chinese New Year, a concert was held in the morning and our school’s Dance Club, Chinese Orchestra, Band and Dikir Barat members put up commendable performances to provide entertainment for everyone. The atmosphere reached its climax during the performances and the audience was definitely enthralled!

Lastly, the student councillors presented mandarin oranges and cards to the teachers – a traditional gesture to show appreciation. The teachers reciprocated by distributing red packets to the students too, which was the highlight of the day.
This new year celebration ended in a joyful manner.
