Mr Loke Chee Pheng

Marsiling Secondary School has offered 10 years of quality education to the students in the neighbourhood since it was founded in 2000. From an initial student population of 261, we have grown to an enrolment of more than 1400 students. We will be celebrating our achievements this year with the 10th Achievement Day and a 10th Anniversary Dinner. We will also be publishing a commemorative publication, as well as launching a National Education Trail in the Marsiling neighbourhood.

As a young school, we are still growing. Our strengths lie in our committed staff, who constantly seek to improve learning and organisational outcomes. In Teaching and Learning, the teachers implemented a number of school-based curriculum innovations to make learning more authentic and relevant to our students. The Environment Education Modules, Current Affairs and Life-skills Modules are some examples. Pedagogies that aim to develop thinking skills and to increase participation in class are also used extensively by the teachers.

Through the character development framework, we put in place structures and processes to develop the performance and moral character of our students. Our 3 As model – Attendance & Appearance, Attentiveness and Achievement – provides a model for our students to strive for excellence, and our guiding principle of “High Care with High Expectations” ensure positive student outcomes.

The work of our teachers is duly recognized through the achievements that we have made as a school. In 2009, we attained value-added results in both GCE N and O Level Examinations. We were awarded the Development Award for Character Development in 2008 by MOE, and we became a Centre of Excellence for Environment Education in the North 5 Cluster in 2007.

As we continue our journey in the next decade, we shall continue to add value to the students who come through our door and make our mark as a school!
